Based in Hong Kong as a visual arts artist teaching in a secondary school, LUI Chu-Ying, Calla graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University and undertook postgraduate studies at The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

LUI attained 3rd place in the 'Hong Kong National Award' from the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards, an 'Abstract - Honourable Mention' from the Monochrome Photography Awards 2018, and the 'AVA Keeper of Studies Collection Award' in 2017. Besides, she joined AVA BA GRAD SHOW 2017 Exhibition in 2017 and Fresh Trend 2017 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition at Chi K11 Art Space in Hong Kong.

LUI is very interested in the experimental process of photographic imaging. She focuses on questioning the essence of painting and photography. Her artworks have explored and experimented with the possibilities of camera-less photography and darkroom painting in terms of both the medium and the aesthetic.
